Studio Update

Had a great session with Dave Traugh and Todd Yesterday. Tore through a bunch of drum tracks on some old favs and new material. "Typical", "Saturday Night (redux)", and "Crazy in the Moonlight" were among the tracks Todd did an awesome job putting drum tracks on.

Todd Stubbe is sexy!

Also had an awesome part of the session with Todd putting down tracks with the djembe. "Parkersburg Skyline" sounds awesome. A new song I wrote only a few weeks ago called "Master Your Mind" was proving to be rhythmically problematic found an answer in the djembe. Could not arrive at anything good with the kit, so I suggested Todd try the djembe. Turned out awesome.

We even got ambitious and laid down tracks for an older song, "Hard Luck Baby".

All in all, it was an awesome time and we made HUGE progress.

Next up is to get Dickie in to record some guitars. Can't wait.

Getting fired up!

Gearing Up For a BIG oh-one-oh!!

We are gearing up for a huge 2010. Things to be excited about:

1. Finally getting serious about the CD we have been working on for 4 years. Waaaaaay past due to get this thing out. Been working with Emmy-award winning composer and producer Dave Traugh to resurrect the recordings we did at Husseyfest '06. Very excited to be working with Dave on this project as we were able to take tracks that I thought were DOA and turn them into something great. Been cutting some new songs as well so there will be a mix of old and new. Plans are to release an LP and EP concurrently so there will be a lot of new SHB music coming out this year.

2. We are branching out to some new towns, look out for us in Beckley, Huntington, Athens, Charleston, and Morgantown before the year is out.

3. Finally going to get serious about our merchandising efforts. Stay tuned on that. Lots of cool stuff will be available on the E-store very very soon!

4. It's almost springtime. Thank God!

5. Getting lots of calls for private events. Please keep us in mind for your fundraiser!!

Going to be a great year and we are playing out first show of the year in Parkersburg tonight at the Thirsty Turtle.

See you there!

Peace-

Steve

Busy Month!

We just completed the busiest month in SHB history. 7 full band shows in 5 weeks. I also squeezed in 5 solo acoustic shows in there for good measure. For the first time in y life I actually felt like a musician who just happens to have a day job rather than the other way around.

We had some great experiences over this last month. A few highlights:

  • The riverfront park in Point Pleasant is one of  my new favorite places to play. What a beautiful setting!
  • The Parkersburg Homecoming is the highlight of my music career so far. We played a headlining spot on Saturday night leading up to the fireworks for about 4,000 people. Full out light show. We had our own backstage trailer (!) How about all of those people singing "Country Roads" back at you to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up? I am still walking on air just thinking about it! Awesome.
  • Friday nights @ JP Henry's are working out quite well. Thanks to Tom Hughes for having us.
  • The Fairplain Yacht Club is going to be a regular stop on the Jager Tour. We had a blast and th band that opened for us, Brewin' Company, has a bright future. Great original material and a real cool laid back sound.
  • Sundays @ Ricky D's have been a blast. Love playing acoustic shows. Look out for the full band next year for a special one-off event outside.

It's been a great month and thanks to everyone that comes out to support live music and the Steve Hussey Band. We are just touching the tip of the iceberg here folks. Come and ride with us on the Party Bus!

Peace-

State Fair of WV 2009

OK! Let's see...random thoughts and happenings from the State fair in Lewisburg.

Walking like 4 miles carrying two guitars to find the stage.

A big shout out to DJ and Tyler for being our "Sweet Home West Virginia" volunteers in the second show. You guys slayed the crowd more than we ever could.

Being able to hear a pin drop during the last performance of "Country Roads". Nothing like having about a thousand people singing back at you.

The handclaps during "Morgantown" in the last set.

The total silence during our first sing along attempt of "Mustang Sally". It WAS 11:30 in the morning, afterall.

Todd's pink hat.

Todd buying everyone hats for the third show. Pink, purple, sky blue and pink rhinestone flavors. Classic.

Being asked to pose for photos with teenage girls. AND to sign the shirts of teenage girls. I felt like a Beatle.

It was hot. Freaking hot truth be told.

Fair lemonade. Corn dogs. Elephants. Fun house. Carnie managers. Stuffed animals. Funnel Cakes.

Hanging out "backstage" with Meredith and Grant.

Did I mention it was hot? Looking forward to this weekend. Parkersburg Homecoming this Saturday night. Should easily be our biggest show ever.

Great time! Thanks!

Mason! Jars!

Just a quick post about our gig at the Mason. I have to say it was interesting. We had a decent turnout. Our T-shirts made their awesome debut.

The thing I will always remeber about this show were the golf carts and 4-wheelers. Apparently they use them for transportation in Mason County. For real. Like they have their own space in the parking lot at Wal Mart. What the heck?! One would drive by every five minutes or so. I felt really out of place. Only in WV.

It was the first time we played in the rain. Er, got rained out. Thankful that we got all of the equipment loaded up between the showers.

Peace out-

Steve
